    Similar Products:

    Delta-Cortef®, Prednis-Tab®, Meticorten®, Solu-Delta-Cortef®, Sterisol®, Cortisate-20®

    Active Ingredient:

    Cyclosporine

    Description

Atopex® is manufactured by Cipla Vet. This treatment comes in a form of soft gelatin capsules that quickly dissolve in an aqueous environment and form a fast-absorbing microemulsion. Active ingredient comprised in these capsules is Cyclosporine, a potent immunosuppressant with a specific action on T-lymphocytes.

    Indications:

    - canine atopic dermatitis (CAD);

    - perianal fistula (as a supporting therapy only).

    MOA (mechanism of action):

Cyclosporine releases specific and reversible inhibition towards T-lymphocytes (namely, T1-suppressors and T1-helpers), blood cells responsible for immune reaction. Cyclosporine also affects the synthesis of certain immune cells products, including lymphokines – compounds playing a central role in the immune cell signaling. Lastly, Cyclosporine suppresses the release of interleukin-2, a group of cytokines present in white blood cells which are thought to be related to the autoimmune disorders.

    Dosage

Atopex® should be taken by mouth without food, 2 hours before or after feeding. Insert the capsule(s) directly into the dog’s mouth.

    For atopic dermatitis

Dogs weighing under 4 kg: 5 mg/kg bodyweight once daily.

Dogs weighing from 4 to 8 kg: 25 mg once daily.

Dogs weighing from 8 to 15 kg: 50 mg once daily.

Dogs weighing from 15 to 29 kg: 100 mg once daily.

Dogs weighing from 29 to 36 kg: 150 mg once daily.

Dogs weighing from 36 to 55 kg: 200 mg once daily.

Once the symptoms of atopic dermatitis is controlled, Atopex® may be given once in 3-4 days.

The average course duration varies from 4 to 8 weeks, although the exact one should be determined by your veterinarian depending on your dog’s condition and therapeutic response.

As a supporting therapy for perianal fistula

The average dose is 7,5 mg/kg bodyweight once daily.

The recommended course duration is 12 weeks, although the exact one should be determined by your veterinarian depending on your dog’s condition and therapeutic response.

    Precautions:

If the health conditions of your dog have not improved after 8 weeks of treatment, stop giving it Atopex® and seek veterinary advice.

Do not use Atopex® in combination with other immunosuppressants, macrolides, aminoglycoside antibiotics or antipruritic medications.

Atopex® will increase your dog’s sensitivity to infections and parasites by suppressing its immunity. It is highly recommended to undergo veterinary examination and exclude any infection or flea infestation before starting treatment course.

Do not vaccinate your dog during the Atopex® treatment course, as well as 2 weeks before and after it.

    Missing a dose

If you miss a dose you should give it as soon as you remember about your missing. If it is the time for the next dose you should continue the regular dosing schedule. Do not exceed the recommended dosage. Do not administer a double dose to compensate the missed one.

    Overdose

If an overdose occurs and your pet is feeling unwell, stop giving the medication immediately and seek medical advice.

    Storage

Store at room temperature between 15 and 25 degrees C (59 and 77 degrees F) and away from excess moisture and heat. Throw away any unused medicine after the expiration date. Keep out of the reach of children.
