    Active Ingredient:

    Timolol

    Description

    Timoptic ophthalmic solution is a medication in the eye drops form used to lower the increased intraocular pressure (or eye hypertension). Timoptic comprises Timolol as an active ingredient. It is a non-selective beta-adrenergic antagonist (beta-blocker).

    Indications:

    - elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) due to primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) or chronic glaucoma;

    - elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) due to other eye conditions (eye trauma, pseudoexfoliation syndrome, pigment dispersion syndrome and corneal arcus).

    MOA (mechanism of action):

    Timolol is a strong hypotensive and antiglaucoma agent. It reduces high as well as normal intraocular pressure by inhibiting the synthesis of aqueous humor. Timolol diminishes IOP having little or no effect on pupil size or accommodation. Although Timolol helps in controlling glaucoma, it does not cure it.

    Dosage

    For increased IOP in patients with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension

    Adults: instill 1 drop of Timolol 0,5% solution in the treated eye(s) 1 time daily in the morning.

    Children over 2 years: instill 1 drop of Timolol 0,25% solution in treated eye(s) 2 times daily.

    Dosage may be increased to 1 drop of a 0,5% solution 2 times daily, if necessary for adequate reduction of IOP.

    Dosage may be reduced to 1 drop once daily of effective strength to maintain reduced pressure.

    The onset of reduction in IOP can be noticed within 30 minutes after a single dose of Timoptic ophthalmic solution. The effect lasts for as long as 24 hours.

    Timoptic ophthalmic solution is usually instilled until pressure in the eye is controlled (about 4 weeks).
