    Active Ingredient:

    Norfloxacin

    Description

Norflox® Eye and Ear Drops are manufactured by Cipla. The active ingredient comprised in drops is Norfloxacin, a broad-spectrum Fluoroquinolone (or Quinolone) antibiotic and a synthetic chemotherapeutic antibacterial agent.

    Indications:

    - bacterial eye infections, including acute superficial infections of the eye and its adnexae (conjunctivitis, blepharoconjunctivitis, and blepharitis);

    - bacterial ear infections, including otitis externa, acute otitis media and chronic suppurative otitis media and prophylaxis during otic surgeries such as mastoid surgery.

Do not use Norflox® Eye and Ear Drops to treat a viral or fungal infection in the eye or ear.

    MOA (mechanism of action):

Norfloxacin inhibits DNA gyrase (type II topoisomerase, and topoisomerase IV) – an enzyme crucial for separation of the replicated DNA, thereby it prevents bacterial cell division. This results in bacteria death and elimination of the infection. Norfloxacin is effective against bacterial infections caused by Acinetobacter calcoaceticus, Aeromonas hydrophila, Haemophilus influenzae, Proteus mirabilis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Serratia marcescens, Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Staphylococcus warnerii, Streptococcus pneumoniae.

    Dosage

For eye Infections: 1 or 2 drops instilled topically to the treated eye(s) 4 times daily for 7 days. Depending on the severity of the infection, the dosage for the first day of therapy may be 1 or 2 drops every 2 hours while being awake.

For ear Infections: 2 or 3 drops every 2 or 3 hours, initially, reducing the frequency of instillation step by step as infection is controlled.

    Precautions:

Norfloxacin solution is not for injection.

Norfloxacin solution is associated with allergic reactions, even following a single dose. Discontinue using drops immediately and contact your physician at the first sign of a rash or allergic reaction.

Prolonged use may result in a fungal infection. If superinfection occurs discontinue use and institute alternative therapy.

Norflox® Eye and Ear Drops may cause your vision to blur temporarily after you have applied them into your eye. Do not drive or operate machinery until this has worn off.

Avoid contaminating the applicator tip with eye, fingers or another source.

Patients should not wear contact lenses while using Norfloxacin solution for eye infection.

Wash your hands before using the eye drops.

    Missing a dose

If you miss a dose you should instill it as soon as you remember about your missing. If it is the time for the next dose you should continue your regular dosing schedule. Do not instill a double dose to make up for a missed one.

    Overdose

If an overdose occurs and you are not feeling well, stop taking the medication immediately. You should seek emergency medical attention or contact your healthcare provider immediately.

    Storage

Store at cool room temperature, away from moisture and heat. Do not freeze. Keep the bottle tightly closed when not in use. Use within one month after opening a container. Keep out of the reach of children.
