    Active Ingredient:

    Budesonide

    Description

    Budecort® Inhaler is manufactured by Cipla and contains the active substance Budesonide, that belongs to a class of drugs known as corticosteroids. The medication works directly in the lungs to make breathing easier by reducing the irritation and swelling of the airways to allow easier breathing. Budecort® Inhaler is for the oral inhalation route only. The drug is indicated for a long-term asthma management regardless of the symptoms manifestation frequency or even their absence. It helps prevent asthma attacks, but will not stop an attack that has already started. For this purpose, a short-acting inhaler is required.

    Indications:

    - patients requiring oral corticosteroid therapy for asthma;

    - maintenance treatment of mild asthma in patients requiring an intermittent symptomatic bronchodilator;

    - treatment of moderate asthma in patients requiring regular asthma maintenance medicine;

    - patients with severe chronic asthma.

    MOA (mechanism of action):

    Budecort® Inhaler acts inside the body’s cells to decrease the release of certain chemicals (mast cells, eosinophils, neutrophils, macrophages, and lymphocytes, histamine, eicosanoids, leukotrienes, and cytokines) involved in the immune system and which initiate an inflammatory reaction. This prevents inflammation and excess mucus formation in the airways, allowing the air to get into and out of the lungs, thus easing breathing and alleviating asthma symptoms.

    Dosage

    The dosage highly depends on the severity of asthma and to be prescribed by a doctor for each patient individually.

    The recommended dosage for the asthma therapy is following:

    Adults:

    - 400 mcg/day in 2 divided doses;

    - maximum dose is 1600 mcg/day.

    Children (6 - 12 years):

    - 200-400 mcg/day in two divided doses;

    - maximum dose is 800 mcg/day.

    Patients who have difficulties with synchronizing aerosol actuator and inspiration of breath can take the medication with the help of Cipla Zerostat VT/Zerostat Spacer device. Maintenance treatment of asthma should be supervised by a specialist and patient should take medical tests on a regular basis to check on their asthma conditions.

    How to use your inhaler correctly:

    1. Load the Budecort® Inhaler with a dose.

    2. Hold your inhaler away from your mouth. Breathe out gently (as far as is comfortable).

    3. Place the mouthpiece gently between your teeth and close your lips (do not bite it).

    4. Breathe in as deeply and as hard as you can through your mouth.

    5. Remove your Inhaler from your mouth and breathe out gently. The amount of medicine that is inhaled is very small which means you may not be able to taste it after inhalation.

    6. Replace the cover by screwing it back on tightly after use.

    7. Rinse your mouth out with water after inhaling your prescribed dose.

    How to use Budecort® Inhaler with a ‘spacer’ device:

    1. Hold the inhaler upright, place your thumb on the bottom of the inhaler and your first finger on the top. Then shake the inhaler several times up and down.

    2. Insert the mouthpiece of the inhaler into the spacer.

    3. Put the spacer mouthpiece in a mouth and hold it firmly between your lips (do not bite it).

    4. Press down once on the aerosol canister with the first finger. This releases one puff into the spacer.

    5. Take a few deep and slow breaths to inhale the medicine.

    6. Take the spacer out of your mouth.

    7. Hold your breath as you count to 10 if you can.

    8. Rinse your mouth thoroughly with water or clean your teeth.
